Transcripts
How are Podling transcripts made, and how accurate are they?
Podling creates word-synced transcripts with automatic speech recognition, or uses the publisher’s official transcript when one is provided.
Last updated:
Every episode in Podling has a live transcript that highlights each word as it’s spoken, including brand-new episodes. This is included on every plan, Free too.
Where transcripts come from
- Automatic speech recognition. For most episodes, Podling turns the audio into text automatically and records a timestamp for every word, so the transcript stays in step with what you hear.
- Official transcripts. If the publisher provides an official transcript, through the podcast:transcript tag in their feed or by uploading it on our Creators page, Podling uses it.
New episodes
New episodes get transcripts too, so you can learn with this week’s episode as well as older ones.
What affects accuracy
Automatic transcripts are usually very good, but not perfect. They can make more mistakes when:
- the audio quality is low, or recorded in a noisy place;
- speakers have strong accents, speak very fast or use unusual names;
- people talk over each other (crosstalk);
- music or sound effects play under the speech.
Some episodes include ads that are inserted dynamically, which can shift timing. If the highlighted words drift away from the audio, see Why is the transcript out of sync?
