Shadowing

Sound more natural by copying people who are

Shadowing — repeating a speaker right after them — trains rhythm, linking and intonation. Podling makes it easy with the episodes you already listen to.

Two ways to shadow

  1. Sync

Speak along while the episode plays, following the highlighted words.

  2. Segments

Podling plays one sentence — or two or three on Plus and Pro — then pauses so you can repeat.

  3. Your speed

Slow the audio down, repeat a sentence, or step back and forward one sentence at a time.

  4. Counts toward your goal

Shadowing minutes fill the daily goal ring, so practice turns into a habit.

Made for you if…

Questions, answered

Do I need a microphone?

No. You can shadow out loud without recording. The microphone is only used if you choose to record yourself.

How long should I shadow each day?

Ten minutes is a good default, and it's what the daily goal starts with. Short and daily beats long and rare.

Which shows are best for shadowing?

Pick a show with clear speakers and a speaking speed close to your level — every show page lists its words per minute.
